24th December

A meeting of the Plenary Session of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation took place.
In particular, the session adopted a plenary ruling regarding court practice in criminal cases on abduction, false imprisonment and human trafficking (Russian version). The session also decided to amend its previous rulings on court practice in cases on bribery and other corruption-related crimes (amended Russian version) and on court practice in cases on abuse of office and excess of authority (amended Russian version).


10th December

A meeting of the Plenary Session of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation took place.
In particular, the session adopted a plenary ruling on the functions of assistance and control with regard to arbitration proceedings, international commercial arbitration (Russian version). The session also decided to introduce draft laws to the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, aimed at amending certain provisions of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Russian Federation.

 

26th November

A meeting of the Plenary Session of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation took place.
In particular, the session adopted a plenary ruling regarding criminal liability for tax crimes (Russian version), as well as rulings on issues encountered by the courts due to entry into force of the Customs Code of the Eurasian Economic Union (Russian version) and involuntary hospitalisation of citizens to medical antituberculous organisations (Russian version).


12th November

A meeting of the Plenary Session of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation took place.
In particular, the session discussed a draft ruling on issues pertaining to involuntary hospitalisation of a citizen to a medical antituberculous organisation.


31st October

A meeting of the Plenary Session of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation took place.
In particular, the session adopted a ruling on the rules of conducting court reconciliation (Russian version). There was also a discussion of a draft ruling on issues of judicial practice pertaining to the entry into force of the Customs Code of the Eurasian Economic Union.


22nd October

A meeting of the Plenary Session of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation took place.
In particular, the session discussed a draft ruling on the rules of conducting court reconciliation.


25th September

Vyacheslav Lebedev has been appointed Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation for a new term.
The Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation has examined Mr. Vyacheslav Lebedev as a candidate and reappointed him as the Chief Justice for a new six-year term. Earlier, the High Qualification Board of Judges gave its recommendation for the reappointment. Such a recommendation of a board of judges is a prerequisite for any judicial appointment.


12th September

A meeting of the Plenary Session of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation took place.
In particular, the session adopted a ruling that establishes 1 October 2019 as the first day of activities of general jurisdiction courts of cassation and appeal.
The new courts of cassation and appeal are formed on an exterritorial basis. Each court of cassation will have territorial jurisdiction over 7 to 13 constituent entities of the Russian Federation, and each court of appeal – over 14 to 21 constituent entities.
Where the citizens request this, they will be able to participate in the trials during consideration of their appeals and cassation appeals through a videoconferencing system installed in all the federal courts across the country.
In order to bring justice closer to the citizens residing in remote areas, the law provides for creation of remote court offices of the general jurisdiction courts of cassation and appeal.
The Session also decided to introduce a draft law to the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, aimed at amending the Law on Bodies of the Judiciary.


9th July

A meeting of the Plenary Session of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation took place.
In particular, the session adopted a ruling on court application of private international law norms (Russian version), a ruling concerning the start of activities of general jurisdiction courts of cassation and appeal (Russian version) and a ruling on application of norms of procedural law following recent legislative amendments (Russian version).


25th June

A meeting of the Plenary Session of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation took place.
In particular, the Session adopted a ruling regarding the judicial practice in cases on crimes stipulated in Article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Russian version), a ruling on application of Chapter 47.1 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Russian Federation, regulating the proceedings in a court of cassation (Russian version) and a ruling regarding the issues encountered in consideration of cases on administrative offences stipulated in Chapter 12 of the Code of the Russian Federation on Administrative Offences (Russian version).
There was also a discussion of a draft ruling regarding the application of private international law norms by Russian courts.


18th June

The Supreme Court of the Russian Federation hosted the 14th Conference of Chief Justices of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Member Countries in the city of Sochi.
The Conference was attended by the Chief Justices of India, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, as well as by a Supreme Court Justice from Pakistan. Chief Justices and senior judges from SCO observer countries – Afghanistan, Belarus and Mongolia, as well as from Cambodia, an SCO dialogue partner, also attended the event.
Vladimir Putin, the President of the Russian Federation, sent his welcome address to the conference participants.
The following topics were discussed during the conference: delay reduction, court application of legal acts aimed at protection of family rights of the child, review of effective court decisions and sentences in criminal cases, jurisdiction of administrative litigation, steps to strengthen the independence of the judiciary.

11th June

A meeting of the Plenary Session of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation took place.
In particular, the Session decided to amend its previous ruling on judicial practice in cases regarding theft, extortion and illegal turnover of weapons, ammunition, explosives and explosive devices, No. 5 of 12 March 2002 (Russian version of the amended Ruling).
There was also a discussion of a draft ruling regarding the issues of judicial practice in cases on administrative offences stipulated in Chapter 12 of the Code of the Russian Federation on Administrative Offences (traffic violations).

A meeting of the Plenary Session of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation took place.
A draft ruling regarding criminal liability for tax crimes was discussed.


4th June

A meeting of the Plenary Session of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation took place.
A draft ruling regarding Chapter 47.1 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Russian Federation, regulating the proceedings in a court of cassation, was discussed.


16th May

A meeting of the Plenary Session of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation took place.
In particular, the Session discussed a Ruling on application of the Budgetary Code of the Russian Federation as regards recovery of funds from the budgetary system.


23rd April

A meeting of the Plenary Session of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation took place.
In particular, the Session adopted a Ruling regarding the application of Part IV of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation, regulating the issues of intellectual property (Russian version).


11th April

A meeting of the Plenary Session of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation took place.
In particular, the Session decided to introduce a draft law to the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, aimed at amending certain articles of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Russian Federation.


26th February

A meeting of the Plenary Session of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation took place. In particular, the Session decided to amend its previous ruling on judicial practice in cases regarding money laundering (Russian version of the amended Ruling). The Session also decided to introduce draft laws to the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation in order to amend certain provisions of legislation pertaining to military courts and justices of the peace.
